Art Legacy Compass: Guidance for Managing, Downsizing, and Transitioning an Artist’s Studio and Estate
AIR Studio is pleased to announce a new workshop series taught by Chicago artist Mary Longe, the author of Art Legacy Compass and a professional artist, educator, and former Executive Director of Plein Air Painters Chicago. She holds a Certificate in Art Business from Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London, and helps artists organize their studios, strengthen their practices, and make thoughtful decisions about the future of their artistic life’s work.
An Introduction to the Nine Step Art Legacy Compass Framework
September 23, 2026 | 7:00 PM | Cost: $45
Based on Mary Longe’s book Art Legacy Compass: Guidance for Managing, Downsizing, and Transitioning an Artist’s Studio and Estate, this introductory session presents a practical nine step framework for visual artists. Participants will explore how to organize and document artwork, build an inventory, establish provenance, strengthen the business side of an art practice, preserve important records and digital assets, and make thoughtful decisions about what to keep, sell, donate, gift, archive, or responsibly dispose of. The session also introduces planning and executing the disbursement of artwork and creating a practical roadmap for the future. Artist families are welcome to attend.
Art Legacy Compass: The Artist’s Roadmap
A Six Week Guided Workshop for Artists
Beginning October 7, 2026 | Wednesdays, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM | Cost: $275
For artists who want to go further, The Artist’s Roadmap is a six week hands-on guided workshop designed to help participants put the Art Legacy Compass framework into practice in their own studios and art practices. Each session combines group discussion, guided exercises, individual working time, and collaborative problem solving. Participants will work on their own materials and decisions during the sessions, then take practical resources and a focused Compass Bearing back to their studios between meetings.
