Storytelling is sweeping across America’s stages, radio and television stations. A nidus of live, true and personal storytelling, Chicagoland produces numerous storytellers and storytelling venues each week; one of the most popular venues is The Moth heard regularly on WBEZ, Chicago’s NPR station. AIR Studio is proud to present a few of the top storytellers in Chicagoland, all of whom have presented their stories on The Moth in Chicago and have won Moth competitions. The event will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 7:30PM (doors open at 7:00PM) at AIR Studio + Gallery, 348 Tudor Court, Glencoe, IL. Reservations are required; tickets are $20 cash at the door.
AIR’s evening of storytelling includes the following storytellers brought together by tonight’s sponsor and organizer, Louis Greenwald:
Errol McLendon, actor and storyteller, is a Chicago solo performer and storyteller. His stories have been heard at Backroom Stories, Do Not Submit, This Much is True, Serving the Sentence, Ten X Nine, Soul Stories, Stories on the Square, and online at Elmhurst History Museum. He is a Moth Slam winner. Errol also has a solo show, Inner State, which he hopes to eventually tour across the US to roadside attractions.
Evelyn Troutman, comedian, is a performer based in Chicago. She has opened for Kate Willett, Dan St. Germain, Dan Mintz, Hasan Minhaj, and Creed Bratton, although she is best known for being “that one girl who talked only about suicide.” She co-produces TORNADO at The Hideout and The Graveyard Shift at DMen Tap.
Francesca Sobrer, actress and storyteller, comes to Chicago via Bloomington, Indiana, where she was the director of Bloomington High School Theatre program for over 20 years. A three-time Moth Story Slam winner, Francesca is an actress, writer, and acting coach.
Paul Teodo, author and storyteller, is a retired healthcare executive. He has been telling stories on stage in and around Chicago the past 13 years. He is a winner of multiple Moth story and grand slam events. He has also authored three books, PASTAMAN, Call Me Z, and a book of short stories, South of Cermak (all available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble).
Judi Goshen has a fiction writing degree from Columbia College, has been published in The South Loop Review and Story Salon, and several of her screenplays and teleplays have garnered recognition from Writer’s Digest and the Slamdance Competitions. As a Moth-winning storyteller, Judi has written hundreds of stories including her comedic one-woman show, “Fornicationally Challenged,” directed by Mark Travis, which had successful runs in Los Angeles and New York. In her day job, she works for the Chicago Crime and Education Lab.
Louis Greenwald is a retired podiatrist and counseling psychologist. He has told stories at Short Story Theatre in Highwood, Backroom Stories, This Much is True, StoryLab, Is This a Thing, has promoted 6 storytelling concerts in Highland Park, told at Soul Stories Live, the Madison Moth, numerous open mics at Do Not Submit, and is a Moth Slam winner. Louis loves storytelling and wrote a story for Anne Beall and Judi Goshen’s book, Storytellers’ True Stories about Love.
