The buzz last summer was about Bisa Butler's groundbreaking solo show at the Chicago Art Institute: portraits "painted" in vividly colored quilts that are narratives about contemporary black culture. In this workshop, we will interpret her artwork with our own portraits, starting with a black & white face image (or figure) and building on it with collaged papers and stamps. The workshop will begin with a slideshow of Bisa Butler's artwork and talk about her background and significance in mixed media. From there, we will review the process and create our own personal portrait.
